CE Markings
CE Markings a Product's Passport to Europe
Did you ever wonder what the "CE" stands for
on an Attic's hang or tush tag? We did, and here is what we found.
CE is the abbreviation for the French
term "Conformite Europeene." The attached CE marking means the product has
met the quality and safety standards as well as the legal obligations on
products European bound to the 15 countries that comprise the European Union
(EU) and the 4 countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA.)
|
The first attempt to use the
CE marking for Attic Treasures shipped to Europe was a temporary sticker
attached to the back of first generation hang tags. It has also been
used on second and third generation Attics being exported to Europe. |
|
A small temporary circular
CE label affixed to the back or the inside of a second generation tag of
Attic Treasures being shipped to Europe. |
|
The temporary circular CE
label was also affixed to Attic Treasures with third generation hang
tags being shipped to Europe. |
|
It was not until the fourth
generation hang tag was introduced did we find a permanent CE marking
printed on the back of the hang tags. This marking appeared on all
Attics with fourth generation tags regardless of whether or not they
were being shipped to Europe. |
|
Earlier fifth generation
hang tags contained the CE markings. |
|
The CE markings were removed
from later fifth generation hang tags and only used on the tush tag. |
|
|
|
CE Markings on
tush tags first appeared on some 1992 and 1993 black and white tush
tags Today, they remain a permanent fixture on all Attic Treasures tush
tags with the exception of Canadian ones. |
